Accreditation in British Columbia

ASTTBC assists the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB) in providing accreditation of the technology programs offered through the Institutes and Colleges of British Columbia. Accreditation is based upon the national Standards (NS); these are consensus documents published by the Canadian Technology Human Resources Board (CTHRB).

Granting of an accreditation denotes that a program has met defined quality criteria concerning the content, delivery and learning outcomes. It informs students, employers, government and society that the program meets or exceeds the national standard for the education and training of technologists and technicians.

Graduation from a CTAB accredited program ensures that an individual's academic qualifications meet the requirements for registration with any constituent member of the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT). In addition, graduates from such programs will have their academic credentials recognized, without additional formality, by an increasing number of countries.

Providing this modified model of national accreditation in British Columbia is one demonstration of ASTTBC's commitment to ensuring that the needs of technology students, college and institute faculty, provincial government policies and employers are met in a rigorous, but realistic, model.
