House/Property Inspection Certification Program
Special Certification (Technical Specialist programs) recognizes individuals who have reached a certain level of expertise within a defined area. Special Certification does not, at this time, grant membership in ASTTBC and is not part of the regular certification program for technologists and technicians. Special Certification has been developed in conjunction with appropriate industry, government, education, and other interested groups.
Special Certification represents an important vehicle whereby ASTTBC can recognize specialty areas, either as a form of 'endorsement' to ASTTBC certification as an AScT, CTech, Associate or as a separate, distinct 'Technical Specialist'.
The CPI (Certified Property Inspector) and CHI (Certified House Inspector) are trained professionals who have met the required level of education and experience necessary for certification. Â ASTTBC membership is required before one may be certified as a house/property inspector.
The CPI/CHI designation is granted under the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians Act and Regulations. These designations are nationally registered to ASTTBC and through the ASTT Act and Regulations, provide professional certification for house and property inspectors. The Act and Regulations require members to adhere to a Code of Ethics, provides disciplinary mechanisms to review breaches of the Code and uphold performance to the System Inspection Standards of the British Columbia Institute of Property Inspectors.
As of March 31, 2009, all inspectors in BC need to be licensed under the Consumer Protection BC. You may download the entire application package for this license.
In order to apply for this Government Licencing Regulations Section 10 (2) (b), House Inspectors are to meet the requirements of one of the three approved Associations or Authorities. As ASTTBC is an approved Association, you may download this application package to apply for this certification.
